APC: A House Divided Against Itself.

From Anambra, were a federal minister was almost killed by angry mobs unhappy about the state of affairs at the venue of the state's APC elective congress, to Imo state, were confusion and violence rained supreme down to Rivers State, were thugs invaded the state's party headquarters and at least one person was confirmed dead in the violence that followed.

Should we branch in Ekiti state, where the APC governorship primary election to elect the party's flag bearer in the upcoming governorship election, could not continue because hoodlums stormed the venue, shot at delegates, stole ballot boxes and strolled out unchallenged? These and many more were the drama that occurred over the weekend in the camp of the ruling party as it attempted to conduct state party congresses nationwide in readiness for its national convention coming up next month.

While many APC stalwarts would argue that these incidents should not be used as a yardstick to measure the party, many would beg to disagree. Can a house divided against itself really rule and bring the needed change to Nigerians?
Men of the Nigerian police force
The police force had to intervene in many venues were the state congresses held to restore order.

Virtually every state controlled by the APC and even the centre is undergoing one form of crises or the other. From Kaduna were there is serious infighting between the State Governor and Senators from the state, all of whom were elected on the APC platform, to Edo state were two Adams Oshiomole and the current National Chairman, Chief Oyegun are in a battle of supremacy, with each man trying to outwit the other in a bid to become the next party leader. Imo State, is another fractured state were the incumbent governor has vowed to install his son in law as the next commander in chief of the state, contrary to the wishes of other state party leaders who prefer his current deputy. This ugly narrative seem to run down the length and breath of all the state controlled by the party.

Meanwhile the spate of violence against innocent citizens have not abated. Umemployment and lack of social amenities is on the rise. Many Nigerians are already complaining of the non implementation of the promises made during the last election by the APC led government, both at the federal and state levels. And should this trend continue, how can this same party be trusted with the votes of Nigerians in the next election?

With less than a year to the general elections in Nigeria, many are watching to see how the APC would heal its fractured soul and unite its party members who already believe there is no internal democracy in the party.
